In Popayán, Special Anti-guerrilla Forces and the Army are attacking with
ground iron and glass shrapnel, explosives, upon unarmed peasant-farmers.
In the framework of the National Agrarian and Popular Mobilization of
2007, the Process of Popular Unity of Southwestern Colombia (PUPSOC) informs:
The Mobilization continues in its second day in Santander de Quilichao,
in the town of Mondomo. Intense confrontations have taken place due to
the harrassment by the armed forces, who began entering by force into
civilian homes at 7:50 a.m.
Using these himes as their trenches, they launch tear gas, explosives,
gunfire, and rubber bullets towards the people surrounding, leaving an
unknown number injured.
Later at 8:20 a.m. Special agents of the Anti-guerrilla Forces try to
push back the demonstrators with their weapons, and at 9:50 a.m., the
riot police launch more tear gas and seriously injure Javier Quitumbo
in the right eye by the impact of the weapon used to launch the tear gas.
At 10:00 a.m. The Military Police, the riot police and the Special Anti-guerrilla
Forces disperse tear gas, ground iron and glass shrapnel and explosives
and 40 minutes later they open fire toward the pesant- famers.
